A number of FMP Contenders brought their season to a close by competing in the National section of the Wales Rally GB. The most successful crew was Robert Bradley / Kevin Booth with a Top 20 finish and Class victory in their Escort MK2. Rob commented, ‘The atmosphere on the stages was fantastic with flag waving fans from all over the world cheering us on to our best result this year’.
Also commenting on the incredible atmosphere, Steve Deeley and Alan Proudman were also full of praise for the event which in terms of Stage mileage compared very favourably to the cost of National one day events.
Steve from Stourbridge commented, ‘If this were the only Rally I could do all year then I’d be back for more’. The crew picked up a podium position bringing the Peugeot 205 GTI home a creditable 25th out of the 57 finishers.
Worse luck befell FMP Contender Ian Jones who partnered inaugural FMP Champion Thomas ‘TC’ Lloyd on Thomas’s second rally since coming out of a five year break from the sport.
They left the road on Stage 3 with Thomas taking the full impact on the driver’s door against a tree. Thomas is now nursing a broken tibia and fractured knee cap but commented that Mam’s Lamb Dinner has helped him on his road to recovery! Ian luckily emerged unscathed.
